The Importance of Making Good Decisions

2 Timothy 3:1-7

New International Version (NIV)

3 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

6 They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, 7 always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.

Beth Moore ‘s Breaking Free Study is definitely a study if you havent already participated in, is one to surely do in the future. She is down to earth, and honest and has an amazing ability in getting to the heart of the matter regarding women’s issues. As I watched her session ten video today, I thought of a few things that she covered. One thing we do know is that the “End times” are certainly coming. All the prophecies of the Bible that have been fulfilled align with the one’s that have not been fulfilled yet, and will equal as they say in math terms, “the total sum of the Bible”. We are encouraged to be ready for the time that Jesus returns to get his people, as well as the events that will happen in history both before and after.

I say all of this to say that the message in 2 Timothy 3:1-7 is clear, descriptive, and of the truth. God’s Words never are to fall on deaf ears, but to be mediated and applied in your life. Ok, I am getting to the point, quoting Beth, “What will most remarkably define the times as terrible (verse one) will be social phenomena rather than natural or environmental. ” Isn’t that scary? It saddens me that we already live in a secular world that is so hateful and cruel to people, but to know that it is going to get worse! We will have to be prepared to fight, the Sword of protection that we are given is the very Word of God. If you do not know it, how are you going to be able to protect yourself? We are to know the Word now, in this lifetime when we are dealing with people, relationships and experiences; the best “How to do” is not you tube, or google, but the Word of God.

One of the things I was thinking about today was the portion of the Breaking Free video that talked about how God is a God of Progression. God created us in His image, and wrote the Word of Life for us to live by, over a fifteen hundred year period, the key point is this, “If anything is worse something it will take time.” Why do we allow ourselves to get involved in unhealthy relationships, destructive friendships with people who although we say “just met”? Why do not value ourselves enough to take the time to decide if someone is healthy for us? We take the time to ensure that the products we buy, or the food that we eat are good, so why wouldn’t we want the same for our spiritual and emotional being? I urge you to take a good assessment of the people who you bring to your spirit, for we truly are in God’s image.

  1. I’m curious, why do you believe that St. Paul’s words are a prophecy for a time that has not yet happened?

      Dylan,
The prophecy has not been fulfilled as of yet, due to the fact that we have not reached the End times as of yet. Partial fulfillment of this, and many others of certain prophecies may have been fulfilled.
