 Ephesians 6:10-18

New International Version (NIV)

The Armor of God

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

I have been experiencing spiritual warfare for the past week, I mean intense warfare! I feel like there is an internal tug of war going on inside of me. The best description of what that would be is of the picture in the article above. It can be a scary place at first to know that there is so much going on in your mind. I have learned that I do not rely on my emotions, or how I feel.. for satan using that against me in his first tactic!

This morning I pulled out my Bible, and pulled out my reference books on Spiritual warfare and this is what I realized. We are victorious in Christ. We have already defeated the devil, the test is, “Do we even know it?” Satan plays on our ignorance, meaning what we do not know. Two important revelations that we are to know is of the power given to us by the Holy Spirit. To understand Power and Authority is the key to warfare.  “Power is the Greek word dunamis. Authority is the Greek word exousia. Authority is the legal right to use power. We have been given authority to use the power supplied by the Holy Spirit. We must use power and authority by faith. It is based on the Word of God!” (Eckhardt). There is no need to fear, Demons are subject to the authority of the believer. Jesus gives us power to tread on serpents and scorpions. (Luke 10:19). He promised that nothing will harm us.
What do we need to have to be successful in spiritual warfare? In his book, Prayers that rout Demons, John Eckhardt writes this, ” We are to have endurance (2 Tim 2:3), Hatred of evil and evil spirits, (Psalm 139:22), Knowledge (2 Cor. 2:11), Persistence (Ps. 18:27), and Separation (2 Tim 2:14). To separate means to get or keep apart, no man who wars entangles himself with the affairs of this life.”

One of my favorites is the ability to release the power of the blood, Jesus’ blood that he shed for our sins. ” I cover my doorpost and possessions with the blood of Jesus” (Rev. 12:11), ” I rebuke all spirits of torment and fear because I have the peace through the blood of Jesus. (Col. 1:20 paraphrased).

When I feel weak, I hold on to His promises, I hold on to His Word, for there is truth, and there is no darkness in His truth. Sometimes it feels like riding on a boat in the middle of a storm, you just need to hold on until He calms the storm.

I hope you find peace as I have…..

Peace
